( so in thirty minutes, yeah, dylan's there. he's still in his suit, but he's loosening his tie with one hand and caring little for the rest of the people present.

henley's there before him--of course she is--so he approaches her with no trouble, sitting by her side and unable to suppress the little snort of amusement. )

I feel like I should've worn a better suit if you were going to show up dressed so nicely.

[ Henley turns on her stool slightly when she sees him walk through the door, smirking a little bit at his comment. ]

This old thing? Seriously, you look fine.

[wristwatched]

I look like a tired FBI agent.

( which he is, but that's not the point. )

Didn't pull you away from any prior entanglements, did I?

[needshandcuffs]

[ She smiles sympathetically, putting her hand on his. ] Tired is a human quality. We all get tired.

[ She sighs, withdrawing her hand. ] So I know how you feel. Maybe not exactly, but I've got a feeling.

[ Henley shakes her head at his inquiry and gives a facial shrug. ] I was just looking around a used book store. How about you? Up to anything other than hunting for a drink? [ A playful smirk forms on her lips. ]

Yeah--finding the leader of an international drug cartel. ( dylan winces, but only slightly. he doesn't want to whine more than he already is. ) We should trade places. I think these guys we bring in for questioning would react better if a pretty girl asked them questions instead of me.

What're you having? ( he gestures briefly to the bar that they're sitting at, just to remind henley they're there. ) And what kind of book were you looking for, exactly?

[needshandcuffs]

[ Henley unintentionally mirrors him, wincing as well. ] I do not envy you. I don't think I'd have the patience for your job. Thank you for slipping that compliment in there, though. [ She smiles, nudging him gently. ]

A very delicious mojito. [ She gestures to her glass with her hand. ] I'm always on the lookout for out of print works about stage magic or escapology. I've found some gems in stores like the one I was in.

You say that like your tricks don't already wow your audience. ( dylan chuckles at that, but the sight of the bartender has him ordering his whiskry--neat--and gesturing to henley to say she can have whatever she wants. ) You know, a magician's charm is worth a lot, too.

Then again, I might as well ask: any in particular you want to try?

[ Henley chuckles a little bit. ] Oh, you flatter. It’s definitely my goal to wow the audience. I’m just grateful that I no longer have to do that by way of skimpy outfits.

[ She pauses to take a sip of her drink, then looks at him with a slightly quizzical expression on her face. ] Tricks? There are a lot I want to try, but there’s a really dramatic escape that I want to master. Something I saw one of my idols do once. It involves being suspended in a straitjacket by a burning rope. [ There’s a big grin on her face as she imagines it. ] It’d really be something if it was done right.
